FLORA-BAMA
So many celebrities track stories involving the Flora-Bama it’s hard to distinguish fact from fiction. Mick Jagger, Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Stabler all have legacy traces that enhance the legends of this sprawling Gulf Front Dive Bar and Roadhouse that’s home to diverse patrons from bikers to bankers. All standing on the the equal ground of respect, fun, adult beverages and music. Of all the tales I’ve heard, I don’t recall a story of cross words or conflict. There’s something special about this place that somehow let’s you leave your woe’s and worries at the front door. If you’ve not experienced the Flora-Bama you need to make the pilgrimage at least once. Of all the times I visited the Flora-Bama over decades, I never experience the same Flor-Bama twice. Every visit is unique because the patronage of the bar always flushes in and out like high and low tide.
Part of the bar is in Florida and part of the bar is in Alabama thus the name “Flora-Bama” and boasts raw oysters on the half shell, bushwackers and multiple stages sporting incredible performers. Plus there’s a late night Waffle House right across the street. What a Country!!!
This Bar is so unique it has a traditional church service conducted there every Sunday morning.

The Sloop
If you’re looking for an off the beaten path top notch Dive Bar…this is the place. It’s across the street from the Intracoastal Waterway (on the island… below the Hwy. 59 Bridge…West side). They have live music (check their website for bands and times) all the sports channels and top quality homemade food. The Sloop features a tasty cheesesteak on a J.J. Cassone roll and piled high big time nachos.
The Sloop is a low key fun spot where you can have a nice brew or great cocktail and relax . They’ll make you fill at home, even if you’re not a local. They do take Out of State cash or credit cards anytime.
