Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
You’ll find this “Hot Now” neon sign in the window of the Krispy Kreme’s store in Foley. There’s something about seeing that sign “lite up” that makes you want to pull into the parking lot for signature Original Glazed and a hot cup of coffee.
The legendary “Hot Now” neon beacon’s original story dates back to the company’s earliest days in 1937.
Originally, Founder Vernon Rudolph solely baked doughnuts for local grocery stores. HOWEVER… the intoxicating aroma of his secret-recipe yeast dough drifting through the neighborhood proved too tempting for passersby and they started knocking on the door to buy them fresh.
Seeing the demand, Rudolph literally cut a hole in the wall to sell hot doughnuts directly to the public. This “hot and fresh” experience became so central to the brand that the company later developed this neon sign to alert fans the moment a new batch is ready.
